Step 1: Register

  • Use your child’s name to register for programs. If your child has attended SAIT in the past, please have your child’s SAIT ID ready.
  • Please have the Course Registration Number (CRN) for each program.

Exploring Trades (grades 7 – 12)

Are you curious about careers in construction trades? Learn safe use of hand and power tools, while making and personalizing your own projects using a range of materials, including wood and pipe. Gain an understanding of construction trades and take home the final results to wow your family and friends.

DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS: All participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes with a good tread; no sandals or open-toe shoes permitted in the shop. Steel-toe boots are preferred but not required. Long pants are required to be worn in the shop; no shorts, capris, low-cut tops, or loose clothing that could get caught in power tools. Coveralls or clothes that can get dirty are preferred. Participants with long hair should ensure that they bring hair elastics to tie back their hair.

SAFETY NOTE: Eye and hearing protection will be provided. Participants are required to adhere to the safety precautions outlined by the instructors; safety infractions may lead to removal from the program. Participants will need working knowledge of basic power tools to safely and accurately complete the projects.

NOTE: Oversized take home item.

Weld-a-Saurus, Introduction (grades 7 - 12)

The age of the dinosaur is back and you can be part of the re-creation! You'll start by learning how to use a MIG welder and basic welding techniques such as beading, padding and the gas metal arc welding process. You will practice your skills by welding a variety of projects. Then, you'll transform a steel plate into the skeleton of a dinosaur! Take home your welding creations at the end of the program.

DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS: All participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes with a good tread; no sandals or open-toe shoes permitted in the shop. Steel-toed boots are preferred but not required. Rubber boots are also appropriate footwear. Do not wear canvas/cloth shoes, as the sparks may burn through the material. Long pants are required to be worn in the shop; no shorts, capris, low-cut tops, or loose clothing that could get caught in power tools. Coveralls or clothes that can get dirty are preferred. Campers with long hair should ensure that they bring hair elastics to tie back their hair.
